Five Things to Look Forward to in The Book of Boba Fett.
Flashbacks:
Finding out what Boba has been doing since the original trilogy has been on all our minds since he reappeared. Questions such as, has Boba had some dealings with The Sand People? Did he steal from them or have to fight them for said weapons? Could this be answered over multiple episodes? Was there any kind of altercation regarding the ownership of Fett’s ship Slave One? More importantly though, has everything he’s gone through changed Boba for the better or worse(?). Him sticking around for a few episodes of The Mandalorian was certainly fun, but doesn’t seem to gel with the “Legend” of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter. Will there even be flashbacks to Boba’s childhood? Maybe even his father Jango will make an appearance via flashback, any opportunity to tell how Boba has changed over the years is a welcome one.
Building an Empire:
Fett was seen at the end of Season 2 of The Mandalorian returning to Jabba’s Palace and taking it for himself. It was an incredibly fun premise to be teased with, especially after the seeing his very grand return a few episodes earlier. But looking at the state of the palace in that stinger, it looks like this particular criminal empire has fallen on hard times. The place isn’t nearly as crowded or lively as it was during Episode Six, perhaps Bib Fortuna hasn’t been able to hold onto what he seized after Jabba’s death. With Fortuna’s death at Boba’s hands this will inevitably cause a power vacuum that Fett will need to fill, because there’s no guarantee that the criminal contingency of Tatooine or the galaxy at large will believe that Fett has returned. It’ll be an uphill battle to establish himself in the position he’s taken and he’ll need every asset he has to keep it.
New Characters:
New show = new new enemies, new allies, new everything so to speak. The spotlight will be undoubtedly be on Boba and Fennec, but this didn’t stop Bill Burr from stunning us with his performance as Mayfeld in The Mandalorian and Jabba’s palace did look oddly empty in the little we saw of it when Boba decided to move in. This leaves the show with no shortage of spaces on the cast to be filled with new characters with their own stories to from the seedy underbelly of Star Wars to tell.
Fennec Shand:
It’s always great when a known talent makes their way into Star Wars and Ming-Ma Wen is no exception. Whilst Fennec hasn’t been given a huge amount to do in the screen time she’s already had, outside of some stellar action scenes, having her be a full time member of Book’s cast will allow her to be developed into a bigger character than The Mandalorian has room for. Given the confirmation that Book will be delving into Fett’s past via flashbacks, it feels natural that we’ll be seeing Shand’s past also. As well as how her partnership with Boba has developed.
Temura Morrison:
For the longest while I wasn’t a fan of Morrison’s voice being re-dubbed into Empire Strikes Back. After watching him in The Mandalorian and behind the scenes; Temura Morrison is Boba Fett like Tobin Bell is The Jigsaw Killer or Keanu Reeves is John Wick.
In a number of articles, Morrison explains how he’s been trained in The Haka and a number of traditional Māori weapons which he wholeheartedly displays both on and behind the camera. In every behind the scenes video regarding Fett’s fight scenes, it’s clear that Morrison is the one in charge and that he is telling the Director(s) how Fett moves, fights and carries himself physically. Seeing his enthusiasm and passion for the role was infectious in the best way and we should all be extremely excited to see more of Morrison’s performance in December.
